ART FROM THE HEART
by TOST Magazine
For Gina Marie, the journey began in childhood, shaped by both creativity and loss. When her sister was diagnosed with leukemia at twelve and passed away at sixteen, it set her on a path she never expected. “I think events in your life push you toward certain paths,” she reflects. “All my sisters work with children in some way. For me, it’s through art.”
Though she spent twenty-five years in corporate HR, her love for art remained constant. Eventually, she took a leap of faith and opened her studio in Boerne—a decision that has since become a gift to the community.
From the moment children walk into Gina’s studio, they step into a space designed just for them—a place where creativity is limitless, and their ideas are celebrated. She delights in watching them express themselves freely. “They have new ideas, and they aren’t limited by so many rules yet. If they get excited about something, I want to explore it with them.”
Her passion for watercolor reflects the philosophy behind her teaching. “It’s transparent, beautiful, and unpredictable—just like art should be.” Each class is designed not only to introduce children to different mediums but also to give them confidence in their creative choices.
Community is at the heart of Gina’s work. One of her most memorable moments was leading a tribute to the late artist Paul DeLuna during the Boerne Art Market. “We invited everyone to contribute—painting, splattering eggs filled with paint, leaving their mark. It was about love, healing, and remembering.”
Boerne has given her more than just a place to teach—it has given her a home. “This is the place I always longed for,” she says. “And I feel blessed every single day to share my love of art with this community.”
