THINK OF SUCH THINGS
Think about what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy.
LIFE comes at us full force these days. From societal pressures to being present on social media, from expectations at work to deciding what to make for dinner Every Single Night, managing the household schedule and ensuring everyone gets where they need to go, doing what needs to be done, our day-to-day existence can feel overwhelming and chaotic. We might find ourselves reaching for anti-anxiety medicine or another glass of wine, just to be able to “deal” with our situations.
Yet, this simple verse is an amazing key to finding peace throughout our days. It’s a crucial principle to overcome, be transformed into His Image. When we turn our focus upon what is good, noteworthy, and true, we magnify such things in our mind. Just like a microscope has a lens that amplifies whatever is under its view, we do the same thing in our minds. We cause whatever we’re focused on to reproduce, to multiply, to expand. If we worry and stress about something, we’ll continue to worry and stress, our bodies will respond to that negatively. When we intentionally reflect on truth, on nobility, on honor, we shift atmospheres, we change culture, we position ourselves and the world around us for transformation.
You do not have to think about every thought that pops into your head. Imagine yourself in a train station. There are lots of trains arriving and departing at various terminals throughout the day. You wouldn’t just jump on a train willy-nilly without knowing where it’s headed and agreeing with that destination as your own chosen destination. You shouldn’t just jump on the thought train and find yourself in worrywart land without a second thought.
Train your mind to concentrate on the good things, the things you’re grateful for, the beautiful and amazing world around you. Then, watch your attitude and your behavior adjust as well.
