BOERNE FARMERS MARKET

Preview

It all started with a simple phone call. I was at the gym when a friend reached out, asking if I knew anyone interested in starting a local, food-centric farmers market in Boerne—or if I wanted to join her in creating one. Without hesitation, I said, “YES!” It had been a long-time dream of mine, and I knew just the right people to help make it happen.

From that moment, a team of five passionate women came together, united by a shared mission: to create a farmers’ market that would bring fresh, local food directly to our community. Over the course of a year, we worked tirelessly—planning, recruiting vendors, setting up business accounts, securing a location, and developing a marketing strategy. Finally, in April 2024, the Boerne Farmers Market officially launched, and we were welcomed with open arms by our incredible community.

As we approach our one-year anniversary, our team looks a little different, but our commitment remains the same: to make the market a weekly tradition that the community can be proud of. We are dedicated to supporting local farmers, ranchers, and artisans by providing a space where they can connect directly with customers, share their craft, and grow their businesses. I’m grateful to this day for that phone call, as it sparked a local movement that has grown into a highly successful and cherished community event.

A Unique Opportunity for Small Growers

One thing setting our market apart is our commitment to local homesteaders and hobby gardeners, giving them a space to sell surplus produce and homemade goods.

One of our regulars, D’s Freedom Farms, is a shining example of this. Danielle and Adam relocated to the Hill Country several years ago to embrace a more self-sufficient lifestyle.

Growing food in this region isn’t easy, but they’re mastering it. Danielle brings stunning seasonal vegetables and canned goods to the market almost every week, sharing the fruits of their labor with the community.

Another seasonal vendor who made a big impact this year was Dave with Epic Lemons. His perfect homegrown lemons and calamondin fruits were a market favorite, proving that even small-scale growers can make a big difference.

This program has been a fantastic way to support local growers while increasing the availability of fresh, seasonal produce for our customers.

Supporting Regenerative Farming

Another initiative we launched this year is the weekly CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program in partnership with Sovereignty Ranch in Bandera. Each week, customers can pre-order a farm-fresh CSA bag, filled with seasonal produce and add-ons like raw milk, pasture-raised meats, eggs, and sourdough. They pick up their CSA at the market, then browse for local honey from Nectar or Priceless Honey or grab some delicious sourdough cookies from Deux Mamas—a perfect pairing with our market’s offerings.

A Community Effort, A Labor of Love

We are incredibly grateful for the support our community has shown us. The Boerne Farmers Market is a nonprofit organization, and our board members and volunteers work purely out of passion—to bring fresh, local food to Boerne and connect people with their growers.

If you’d like to get involved, whether by volunteering or becoming a vendor, we’d love to hear from you! Know a farmer, rancher, homesteader, or hobby gardener who would be a great fit? Send them our way!

Thank you for making the Boerne Farmers Market a thriving part of our community. Here’s to many more years of fresh food, local connections, and shared meals!
