FROM RANCH TO ROMANCE
THE STORY BEHIND IRONWOOD EVENTS AT THE VON ERICH RANCH
BY YVONNE FALDYN
Nestled in the picturesque Texas Hill Country, Ironwood Events at the Von Erich Ranch is more than just a wedding venue—it’s a dream brought to life by owners Kevin (Von Erich) and Pam Adkisson. Their journey into the world of wedding events was unexpected but deeply fulfilling, shaped by faith, family, and a desire to create a space where love stories begin.
When the Adkissons left their life in Kaua’i in search of a new home in Texas, running a wedding venue wasn’t part of the plan. “We had never really considered it until we found this ranch during our home search,” shared Kristen, daughter of legendary Kevin Von Erich. “The beautiful venue was already part of the property, and we just knew this was the ranch for us. It felt like walking through doors that God opened for us.
For the Von Erich family, the decision was rooted in the values they held dear. “The importance of a close family was always instilled in my siblings and me,” Kristen explained. “Celebrating the beginning of that chapter for others felt like a natural extension of our own mission in life.”
Although they had no formal experience in event planning or hospitality, Kristen had spent her life preparing in unexpected ways. “I’m the oldest sister in a big family,” she said with a smile. “I’ve always helped my dad plan publicity travel and events, coordinating countless logistics.” Their background in the foster care system in Hawai’i also shaped their approach. “Making people feel welcome, comfortable, and safe has always been important to us,” she said. “That aligned perfectly with hosting events and our cabin rentals.”
Unlike many rustic venues in the area, Ironwood Events at the Von Erich Ranch offers a rare versatility. “It really is a converted barn, but depending on the client’s taste, it can be transformed into a timeless and elegant space,” Kristen said. “We love that it can be both rustic and refined, depending on the couple’s vision.” That adaptability, combined with a commitment to personalized service, sets the venue apart. “We’re a small business—we don’t have weddings back-to-back,” she emphasized. “The focus is entirely on you and your event.”
Finding the right property was a journey in itself. “We scrolled through thousands of listings,” Kristen recalled.
“My brother Ross and I flew in to look at our shortlist, and when we saw this ranch, we knew it was the one.” Texas had always been home for Kristen, but the Hill Country held a special place in her heart. “It’s the most beautiful part of Texas to me,” she said. “This ranch gave us a sense of peace and confirmation—it’s just so special.”
Relocating a family of fourteen while launching a wedding venue was no small feat. “One of the biggest challenges was navigating the logistics of both at the same time,” Kristen admitted. Their solution? Hiring a dedicated venue manager, Laura Avery. “She was instrumental in establishing Ironwood’s identity and brand. We couldn’t have done it without her.”
Transforming the barn into a space that balanced elegance with authenticity was a priority. “I want it to feel elegant but still connected to its Texas roots,” Kristen said. “It’s grand enough to celebrate life’s most memorable moments but cozy enough to kick off your shoes and pick wildflowers before the ceremony.”
Beyond its beauty, Ironwood is about the experience it offers. “We want couples to feel like they can truly personalize their wedding,” Kristen explained. “It’s not just about picking from a set package—it’s about making their vision come to life.”
Balancing daily operations while staying creative requires teamwork. “Having a wonderful team and choosing people who are passionate about our mission makes all the difference,” Kristen said.
More than just a venue, Ironwood Events at the Von Erich Ranch a testament to faith, family, and the power of creating spaces where life’s most cherished moments unfold. As the Adkisson family continues this journey, they remain committed to offering a venue that feels like home, where couples can begin their next chapter surrounded by the beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
